Dr. Kristin Heilmeier-Santos is originally from Wheeling WV. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. She then earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Heilmeier-Santos is Fear Free Certified®.
Prior to joining Animal Care Center, she worked at a small animal private practice in Charlottesville, VA, as well as a 24-hour emergency clinic in the mountains of North Carolina, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Kristin Heilmeier-Santos has a special interest in all aspects of preventive and emergency veterinary medicine. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is the meaning and satisfaction she finds in helping pets and maintaining the human-animal bond. She also enjoys the continued learning aspect of practicing veterinary medicine.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Heilmeier-Santos embraces a vibrant life outside the clinic. She is an avid marathon runner and finds solace and joy in the company of her horses. It's no surprise that she shares these interests with her husband, a fellow veterinary surgeon. Together, they form a dynamic duo dedicated to the well-being of animals. Their own furry and four-legged family members, including a cherished dog, two endearing cats, and two beloved horses, add joy and companionship to their lives.
